Smoking and common sense
The City of Bangor, ME passed a law making it illegal to smoke in a car that contains someone under the age of 18. This is the first such law I have ever heard of, but apparently they already have them statewide in Arkansas and Louisiana.
Anything that discourages people from smoking is fine by me.
The thing in the article that really caught my eye, though, was the comment of one of the opponents of the law, who said that most smokers have enough common sense not to smoke around children. Ha! If they had common sense they wouldn't be smoking at all.

Springtime in January
Last January I noted a day when the temperature here in NYC hit 62°. Well this year we hit 72°--and we're not even done with the first week of the month.
It was entirely appropriate that we went and heard Igor Stravisnky's Rite of Spring, one of my favorite pieces, at the New York Philharmonic last night.
