I am intrigued by the last sentence:

"Dutschke said the last contact they had was in 2010 when Dutschke threatened to sue Curtis for saying he was a member of Mensa, a membership group for people with high IQs."

I guess in Mississippi saying that someone is smart is defamatory.

Semi-random thoughts

• I was reading one of the blogs on my blogroll recently. The writer used the wrong word for something, and I left a comment, hoping she would correct it. I would have been perfectly happy if she just corrected it and deleted my comment--I wasn't looking for a public thank you. Instead, she criticized me for trying to help. I have deleted her blog from my list. I see no reason to help promote her work.
• I wish Twitter and Facebook had filters that prevented pictures of people's pets from appearing on my feeds.
• It's always a little weird when I get home very late and the doorman greets me with "Good morning," and then we say "Good night" when I get in the elevator.
• Every time I go to a show at Joe's Pub someone at my table spills a drink on me. It's happened the last three times I went there.

A first in my lifetime

A friend of mine owed me $12, and her payment included a $2 bill--something which I rarely come across. Then I remembered that I also have $50 and $100 bills right now, which doesn't occur very often either. I checked and found I have the usual $1, $5, $10 and $20 bills also. Thus, for the first time ever, I am in possesion of an example of all of the denominations of currency the United States now has in public circulation.

Internet radio weirdness

I'm listening to the Wisconsin football game via Yahoo! Sports. They transmit the statewide network radio broadcast. It's really funny sitting here in my Manhattan apartment listening to ads for farm equipment and soybean seeds.

Unbelievable

I was quite surprised when the (non-cash) contents of the wallet I lost to a Barcelona pickpocket showed up in the mail a few months later, forwarded from the U.S. consulate there. But I'm flabbergasted that my wife's wallet (minus its cash), which she lost to a pickpocket in Granada a few days after I lost mine, has now also been returned, courtesy of the embassy in Madrid. Our visit to Spain was in May of 2006!

I know it's very early, but I have a hard time imagining anything can top this one.

A strange websearch

Someone in Japan found my glob Googling my name. Why would anyone in Japan be interested in me? I know no one there, and I don't remember having any contact with anyone there.

The only thing that makes this slightly understandable is that the ISP belongs to Temple University's branch there. So it was probably an American in Japan who did this search.

● There is something wrong when a benefit for the Harvey Milk High School in New York City contains material that "May be inappropriate for people under the age of 18."

● It's good to see Andy Roddick finally beating Roger Federer after 11 straight losses to him. It reminds me of when Vitas Gerulaitis won a match from Jimmy Connors back in 1979, after years of losses. Afterwards Gerulaitis quipped, "Nobody beats me 17 straight."

● I hope the delay in the adoption of the New York State budget doesn't interfere with Gov. Paterson's appearance at the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Leadership Awards Dinner on Monday, that I'm going to.

Yesterday, actually. Someone in Spain found my blog searching for ear birth john coghlan. Perhaps they meant "year" instead of "ear." That would make more sense. But it still wouldn't help that there are a zillion John Coghlans.
