DORTMUNDER? Seriously? Not Parker?

I love Westlake's story about creating Dortmunder. He conceived The Hot Rock as a Parker novel, but realized his error when it dawned on him that Parker would have just shot everyone and been done with it. And the world is so much better for it...

I didn't know that.

I came upon Dortmunder long before I discovered Parker. Westlake is my favorite author.
